National Mango Day 2021: History, Facts, Images and Quotes about the King of Fruits The major and most delicious component in our recipes, everyone’s first pick of fruit in the summer, is mango. It is unofficially the best thing about summers, and we even have a special day devoted to this wonderfully juicy fruit. Mango tops the list of our favourite fruits in the summer season. Most importantly, it can be savoured in various forms, be it mango smoothie, mango mousse, mango ice cream or mango pie. Hence, National Mango Day is observed on July 22 to honour this exquisite fruit and keep mangoes as the focus of the day. NATIONAL MANGO DAY: HISTORY The origins and history of the day are unknown, although as previously said, mangoes have a long history. Mangoes were first grown in India around 5000 years ago. It is closely linked to Indian folklore and religious rites. A mango orchard was gifted to Buddha himself. The word mango, as it is known in English and Spanish-speaking nations, is t

‘Cascade effect’: Amazon basin switches from carbon sink to CO2 source The Amazon basin, one of the planet’s largest stores of carbon, is beginning to release more carbon-dioxide to the atmosphere than it absorbs as deforestation and fires spread, potentially accelerating global warming. An international research team confirmed the shift in emissions using 590 aircraft surveys that captured changing CO2 and carbon monoxide levels in the lower troposphere above four Amazonia sites between 2010 and 2018. The results were published in the journal Nature on Thursday. Deforestation and bushfires are changing the climate in parts of the Amazon, and also switching the basin from being a carbon sink to contributing to global carbon-dioxide levels.  No evidence yet that it's time for a 3rd booster, says former FDA director There's not enough evidence that booster vaccines are needed for now, said Norman Baylor, president and chief executive officer of Biologics Consulting. "We're just not there yet … we don't have the evidence that it's time for a booster," he said, adding that in future, there could be new variants that render current vaccines ineffective or much less effective. Pfizer said on July 8 that it is developing a Covid booster shot, or third dose, to target the highly transmissible delta variant. There isn't enough evidence right now to show that booster shots for Covid vaccines are needed, according to a former FDA director. "Being prepared to make boosters is a good thing, but we really don't have … evidence, at least in the United States, where we're seeing vaccine failures or we're seeing waning in immunity, such that it's time to deploy a booster," said
